Evaluation - A Change of Hands

Evaluation Task - A Change of Hands
For our first induction task we were asked to create a short piece of footage in which an object changed hands. As a group, the three of us decided to make a short clip that shows two people meeting and exchanging a small black package. We used college as the main setting for our film as it was available to us at the time, although we did take a few of the shots on the field across from college to add some variety to our footage.
The biggest task was make sure that there were no mistakes in the continuity of the shots that we took. When filming we were very thorough  and kept that as the focus of our task, however this led us to have quite a weak narrative within our footage. If I were to film this again i would focus a lot more of my attention on the narrative of the clip so that it is both interesting and flows well when viewed by an audience.
The two biggest strength's of our work were the range of shot types we used alongside the camera movements and angles and how we kept the continuity flowing through the clips. After re-watching the footage however, I found that the continuity had been broken slightly between two of the clips as there was a change in the position of one of the characters arms. I also this that the music could have sounded less tragic and more tense as this would have fitted the clip better. Another change I would make, if editing this again is to not apply a black and white filter to our footage, the filter caused some of the shots to be either really over or under exposed to light. When filming we worked hard as a group to keep the shots well focused and to keep the exposure right so I think this ruined a few of the clips.

Evaluation - A Tense Meeting

Evaluation Task - A tense meeting (The Hershey Thief)

What went well with the the task?
A strength of this task was in the camera use, a majority of the shots are clearly in focus and we have used the shot types our group planned. As a group we decided on multiple shot types and angles, which worked to our advantage when editing as it made the final piece look professional and much more interesting.
Another strength of our piece was the continuity throughout the production, our shots flowed well from one to the next will smooth transitions.
Using a 50mm lens also helped in some shots as we were able to get a shallow depth of field in some of the shots, this works well to draw attention to specific items within the shot.

What didn't go well in the task?
A weakness of the task was the sound post production. We were unable to find pieces of music that flowed in a coherent way throughout our piece, this meant that some of the clip is silent and the sound doesn't portray the mood of the film as well as we would have liked.
A second weakness in our work was fixed post production in editing. Some of the shots, for example the close up of the Hershey bar hitting the floor weren't  framed to our liking, to fix this we cropped the size of the frame so the Hershey bar was central in the frame.
To correct any mistake whilst filming we re-shot a few pieces of footage so that they were fully in focus and so that the exposure was correct.

Film Review in the style of Mark Kermode

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

Airbrushing

Before this lesson I had used Photoshop many times but never for airbrushing a portrait.
I found this task relatively easy although I learnt how to use a few new tools that I had not previously used. My favourite part of this task was also the most challenging, this was removing the wrinkles and discoloration from under the models eyes. This part also took up the most time of the task.

Why Creative Media Production? I have an interest in media production because I would like to one day work in the media industry as a director, editor or member of camera crew. My plan is to go to university to take part in a media subject or to go into work experience/ an apprenticeship withing the industry. Currently I have not done any voluntary or paid work for a media company. Alongside creative media, I also take photography. This involves using Adobe Photoshop and DSLR's quite often so I already have a relatively good knowledge of both. I am particularly excited to film and edit my own work and do more camera work in this course and also to learn what makes a media production better. Personal Media experience My favourite TV show is Game of Thrones, my favourite actresses from this show are Maisie Williams and Emilia Clarke who play Arya Stark and Daenerys Targaryen. My favourite films are Deadpool and Jurassic World. My favourite genres of film are Science fiction and Horror. I like to watch films and television shows using Netflix. I also consume media content through social media and Youtube on a regular basis. The first memory I have of watching a media product is watching Scooby-Doo cartoons when I was very young. Most of the time I consume media products with my family and friends.
